Avian DNA Testing

Take the guesswork out of managing and breeding your birds. Our DNA testing services help identify sex and important genetic traits in chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, peafowl, guinea fowl, emus, parrots, pigeons, doves, and other supported avian species.

We currently accept blood, feather, and eggshell samples for supported species. Detailed collection and mailing instructions are provided to help customers prepare their samples correctly.

One-on-One In-Ovo Testing Class

Test Before You Invest is an educational In-Ovo DNA Sampling Class presented by Candice Perkins, Owner and Operator of Perkins Poultry Palace & DNA Lab. The class teaches poultry. breeders how to collect a DNA sample from a developing egg during incubation, prepare it for genetic testing, and us the results received to make more intentional decisions before hatch day.

Participants learn the equipment and supplies needed, proper sampling timing, how to access the egg and collect a suitable sample, contamination prevention, accurate labeling, sample preparation, and troubleshooting techniques.

One of the most valuable applications is DNA sexing before hatch, which may help breeders reduce unwanted cockers and save feed, brooder and grow space, time, money, and labor. Depending on available testing, samples may also provide information. about genetic traits such as Blue Egg Gene and Recessive White.

The class is designed for poultry and speciality breeders, homesteaders, small hatcheries, and anyone interested in incorporation technology. into their breeding program. Techniques may be applicable to chickens, ducks, geese, turkey, peafowl, guinea fowl, and other avian species.

Sessions are provided individually through an online meeting platform, allowing you to ask questions and receive direct support.
